Home Painting Supplies House Painting Estimate

Painting your own home can be a rewarding way to save some money on home improvement projects that you may be thinking about doing very soon. You can always hire someone to paint the interior or exterior of your home, but that can get rather expensive, and you are at the whim of someone else's schedule.

You may be tempted to save a ton of money when you take on your own painting project by getting everything as cheaply as possible, but that is not the best idea. You have to spend the right amount for painting supplies to get the best possible outcome to your project.

House Paint Ideas

First, pay money for premium paint. You can save a lot of money by doing it on your own while still getting quality paint. When you buy cheaper painting supplies such as your paint, you are going to have to use more to get the same coverage.

You may have to buy more cheap paint to get the job done. In the end, you may end up spending the same money on paint but you had to do more work and you had to spend more time waiting for the paint to dry. If you start out with good paint, you work less and things look better while lasting longer.

Don't forget to spend money on painting supplies like a good base coat, otherwise known as primer. If you are painting walls that are dirty and you have cleaned them to no avail, you need something special.

The same can be said if you have walls on which children have drawn with crayons or marker. Walls in kitchens that have endured years of grease spatter could also use something a bit stronger than regular primer. Look in the paint supplies section of the store for something called Killz to cover even the toughest stains and wall blemishes before you paint.

Remodeling your home? Looking to hire a remodeling contractor, but tired of digging through the phone book, looking for a handyman or construction company?

Are you looking for flooring, new windows, or a custom home addition, wood kitchen cabinets, kitchen islands, mirror cabinets, or ceiling molding?

Quality doesn't have to cost extra.

For what single feature are all buyers most looking for?

The National Association of Home Builders reported in a survey (What Buyers Want, National Association of Home Builders, 1989.) that quality of workmanship in the appearance of all improvements ranked highest.

"A professional appearance in the finished product is valued more highly than the project itself."

Choosing The Right Painting Supplies

Another consideration in your painting supplies is to get brushes that are not going to leave many stray hairs or strands in your paint job. You do not want to buy the least expensive brushes that you can find. Instead, get something that says it sheds very little and then spend a few extra dollars to get them.

If you are using tape to section off things in your home, which you should be doing when you are painting, buy tape from the painting supplies section of the store. Tape not made for this reason will not work and will mess up your walls.

Paint Color Ideas

Always make sure you get enough painting supplies. If you are mixing up a custom paint color, always get more than you need. If you spill any paint, or if you have to go back in a few years to do touch ups, it is going to be very hard to get an exact match on any mixed paint color.

Keep your extra paint in a safe place in the event you need it again, or you are going to have to redo an entire room when there is a problem rather than just one spot. Thoroughly clean the rest of your painting supplies so you can use them again as well.

Use clues about the underlying tones of different shades of a color on a full sample strip of coordinated colors as you analyze the area you are choosing paint for. Selecting a shade of white or off-white for the moldings, doors, and windows is common. Use the deeper or brighter tones for accents.
